Mission:
The Scioto County Historical Society's general purpose is the promotion and appreciation of historical studies pertaining to Scioto County, Ohio, by collection, restoration and preservation of documents, artifacts and other articles of historical information and interest; by the purchase, preservation and/or restoration of real estate of historic importance; and by maintaining a local historical museum open to the public.
Programs and Services:
- Showcases artifacts and documents of local historical significance
- Offers a historical representation of Portsmouth's earliest permanent settlers, the Peter Kinney family
- Provides guided tours for school groups and visitors by appointment
- Hosts open houses and holiday programs on a variety of themes appropriate for its historical period and contents
