The application can be found through the guidance office. Selection is made by the school. To qualify for this scholarship, the applicant must:

• be a graduating senior of Minford High School or South Webster High School, Scioto County, Ohio.

• attend a vocational school, college or university.

• show school spirit and kindness, and has had a positive impact on their school.

A committee of South Webster and Minford teachers and family will make the selection.

Abe and Bette Zuber - Retail Merchants Scholarship Fund

• be a graduating senior from a Scioto County high school;

• plan to attend Shawnee State University; and

• major in business.

Adams County Community Foundation Scholarship Fund

• have a high school diploma or its equivalent;

• be a resident of Adams County, Ohio or have received a diploma from a high school in Adams County, Ohio or have been homeschooled in Adams County, Ohio;

• show financial need;

• have a record of satisfactory academic performance;

The eligible candidate must be enrolled at an accredited college or university seeking an associate or bachelor’s degree to become a vet tech, vet assistant, or a veterinary-related degree (e.g., pre-veterinary). Students living in the Scioto or surrounding counties are eligible to apply.

Incoming freshmen will be considered if the selection is not large enough.

Bernard V. Counts, Jr. Scholarship Fund

• a resident of the state of Ohio,

• enrolled at an accredited college or university,

• a college sophomore, junior, or senior,

• majoring in environmental studies with an intent to pursue a career in environmental protection.

Besco Family Scholarship Fund

The eligible candidate must:

• be a graduating senior of South Webster High School;

• reside in Bloom or Vernon Townships;

• plan to attend Ohio University, a branch of Ohio University, Rio Grande University, or Shawnee State University; and

• have earned a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Top consideration will be given to education majors. Students majoring in social work, or sociology with a concentration in social work may also apply.

Beverly Christian Osborne Memorial Scholarship (UCAN Neighbor, South Point Local School District)

Bill Newman Sportsmanship Scholarship

• be a graduating senior from a Scioto County, Ohio high school;

• have participated in high school athletic teams; and

• demonstrate sportsmanship on and off the court, ball field, etc. thereby, exemplifying the character of the late Mr. Bill Newman.

An additional letter of recommendation from a coach or the schools’ athletic director is required to complete the online scholarship application.

Bill and Patty Collins Memorial Scholarship

The eligible candidate must:

Be a graduate of Notre Dame High School, Scioto Couty, Ohio
Have a 3.0 GPA or better
Show evidence of community service
Show successful completion of challenging coursework in either AP or College Credit Plus courses such as Physics, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology.
Trade school applicants are eligible

Preference for those pursuing a post-secondary field in education in engineering, science or the medical field.

Bobby J. Burns Memorial Scholarship Fund

The eligible applicant will be:

• a child of an employee of the City of Portsmouth;

• a graduating senior of a Scioto County high school, unless the scholarship is renewed;

• enrolled at Shawnee State University; and

• active in the community.

The scholarship may be renewed for three additional years if the recipient maintains a 2.0 GPA. Only upper classmen may apply if a renewal.

Brenda Musser Memorial Scholarship Fund

Cecil B. and Ocie Trefz Memorial Scholarship Fund

To be considered for selection, the scholarship candidate must (1) be a graduating senior of Peebles High School, Adams County, Ohio (2) plan to pursue studies beyond high school in education or health services, and (3) show financial need.

The fund will provide one or more scholarships to ministerial students affiliated with Bigelow Church, of Portsmouth, Ohio, for study in attending Tri-State Bible College, at South Point, Ohio.

To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must enroll at an accredited college or university majoring in music, specifically in the areas of 1) voice performance or 2) music education with emphasis in voice/choral conducting, or 3) church music with emphasis in voice/choral conducting.

Applicants must write an essay 500 words in length of their intent, outlining their musical training and experience, as well as their goals in the field of music, both short and long term.

Charlie Bill Greene Music Scholarship Fund

The qualified scholarship applicant will be:

• a graduating senior from a Greenup County, Kentucky or a Scioto County, Ohio high school.

• pursuing a college degree in music education or music performance.

• A performance video is required.

Once an applicant has received the scholarship, he/she can reapply for the scholarship for their following collegiate years. The recipient can only receive this scholarship a maximum or four times, once a year for four years. To continue to be eligible the recipient must maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average in non-major classes, and at least a 3.o0 grade point average in major classes, and be a full-time collegiate student. Further, the recipient must submit a recommendation from the head of the music department at the college/university concerning the student’s professional abilities.

Coach Ed Miller Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is available to students at Notre Dame High School and Wheelersburg High School. It will be awarded to one student from each school district, annually. To be eligible, the student must:

• be a graduating senior of Notre Dame High School or Wheelersburg High School.(One will be awarded to each school district)

• plan to attend an accredited college, university, or technical school for post-secondary education.

• complete an essay that discusses their adherence to Coach Miller’s philosophy of faith, family, and football.

Students that are hard workers, showcase pride in school, and have a desire to achieve are encouraged to apply.

Preference will be given to applicants that participate in high school football or cheerleading.

Coach Shurl Shoemaker Scholarship Fund

The scholarship applicant must be:

• a graduate of a Scioto County high school.

• sophomore rank or higher at an accredited college or university.

• majoring in education and planning to pursue a full-time career in teaching.

• an undergraduate student.

Preference is given to students who are interested in coaching athletic teams at the elementary, middle, or high school level.

Courtney Clifford Outstanding Achievement Scholarship Fund

A scholarship will be available for a graduating senior at Minford, Notre Dame, Portsmouth, Valley, and Wheelersburg high schools who:

• has maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher;

• received at least two varsity letters (cheerleading does not qualify as a varsity letter); and

• exhibited leadership qualities, pride in school, the community, good communication skills, community involvement, and overall good character.

The applicant must include an essay describing why you are deserving of this scholarship, how your achievements parallel Courtney's, and how you live your life by dedication, determination, and discipline.

An additional letter of recommendation from a coach is required to complete the application.

Dane Patrick McMackin Memorial Scholarship Fund

Dean Gampp Memorial Scholarship Fund

The scholarship fund is for the benefit of one or more worthy students residing in the Bloom-Vernon Local School District selected by the district advisory committee, for scholarship assistance beyond the high school level.

Dewey and Linda Lykins Memorial Scholarship Fund

To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must:

be a senior at South Webster High School, have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, and enrolled in a four-year college or university.

In addition, students must be well-rounded as determined by academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Students must complete a scholarship application and written essay as well as provide two letters of recommendation from South Webster High School administrators, faculty, advisors, and/or coaches.

Don Walker and Dan Sissel Memorial Scholarship Fund

To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must:

• be a graduating senior from any Scioto County, Ohio high school;

• plan to attend Shawnee State University;

• have a grade point average in a range of 2.5 and 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and

• have a family income of $45,000 or less.

Dorothy Knost Music Scholarship Fund – College / University Scholarship

The successful applicant will be:

• a graduating senior or graduate of a Scioto County, Ohio or Greenup County, Kentucky high school;

• pursuing a baccalaureate degree in music, music performance, or music education at a college or university; and

• prepared for a live audition. An audition video is required when submitting the application.

Requirements for audition: Solo auditions only, plus accompanist if needed. No ensemble or full production videos. If no accompanist, must submit musical score.

Floyd Holsinger Scholarship Fund

To be eligible for this scholarship, the candidate must:

• be a graduate of Notre Dame High School, Portsmouth, Ohio;

• have a minimum grade point average of 2.75;

• be a genuine, kind, self-motivated, disciplined, hard worker, who embraces God, family and education; and

• complete essay "What are the three most important qualities a person should possess and one they should not?"

The candidate’s commitment to their community, church, home, and school shall be considered by the selection committee in evaluating all candidates. The committee shall have the option of awarding the scholarship to any candidate on a continuing basis, until their graduation from a four-year college. The committee has the option of awarding the scholarship to first year students, college freshman who are worthy of selection.

• resident of Scioto County, Ohio, living on a farm;

• 4-H Club member having completed four years or more of 4-H Club projects;

• high school graduate with a grade average of B or better for all four years; and

• participant in church, school, and community activities.

The candidate should exhibit the qualities that the late Mrs. Phillips possessed: that of a highly self-motivated individual or “hard worker” who didn’t quit in the face of adversity.

Gordon M. Freeman IBEW #575 Scholarship Fund

• provide evidence that the parent or guardian is a member of IBEW Local Union #575

• submit a 250-word essay, "What the Labor Movement Means to Me" as part of the application.

Grady and Ollie Battle Scholarship Fund

The application can be found through the 14th Street Community Center office. Selection is made by the Community Center. Qualified courses of study include matriculation at colleges, universities, or trade schools beyond a high school diploma.

Eligibility criteria:

• must be a member of the 14th Street Community Center

• scholastic achievement, community involvement, and residency in Scioto County, Ohio will be considered

Grant, Anne & Pamela Reed Memorial Scholarship

The eligible applicant must:

• be a graduate of a high school in Scioto County, Ohio, Greenup, or Lewis County, Kentucky;

• attend Shawnee State University;

• major in business and

• have a minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or above.

Preference will be given to students majoring in banking, finance, or insurance.

This scholarship is renewable for an additional three years provided the recipient maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.

H. Gordon White Scholarship Fund

• plan to pursue a degree in business or the arts

To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be a graduating senior dedicated to academic achievement and must have attended Notre Dame Schools for at least two years of high school education. The student must complete and return an application to the guidance counselor’s office. The student must be accepted at an accredited college or university. Financial need may be taken into account at the discretion of the committee. The scholarship may be subject to renewal for subsequent years of the student’s college education depending on the funds available and subject to the discretion of the committee.

To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be a student at Portsmouth West High School for at least two years and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Students may use the scholarship to pay tuition, room and board, and/or to purchase textbooks. The Washington-Nile Scholarship Legacy Committee will make annual award selections.

UCAN: Wheelersburg Excellence Scholarship Fund

To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be a senior at Wheelersburg High School and show acceptance into a secondary educational program such as but not limited to a four-year college or university, a two-year college, community college, vocational program, adult education program, or business school.

To be eligible, the student must be a senior at Wheelersburg High School, 2) the student must have a 3.0 GPA, and 3) priority is given to students who show superior motivation, community service, school activities, self-help, employment, and talent.
