Connex, Inc. was founded in 2006 under the name Shawnee Recreation Trail, Inc.
In the spring of 2013, the group was reformatted and reinitialized the vision to bring bike routes to the Portsmouth community. As Connex has grown, the group has expanded its objectives and has added all types of outdoor recreation to the collection of events and activities the group both hosts and supports. A few of Connex's accomplishments include: 1) Connex raised over $100 thousand dollars to construct the first activity path located at Mound Park; 2) Connex hosts an Annual Safety Town to teach youth bicycle safety, bicycling techniques, and provide bike safety checks; 3) Connex has a fleet of bikes that interested bikers can use during regular rides; 4) Connex hosts an annual Wild Ride in the Shawnee Park and Forest that attracts many cyclists from more than 2 hours away to visit the area; 5) Connex assists with TOSRV (Tour of the Ohio River Valley. TOSRV is the longest running bike event in the US and has been traveling to Portsmouth for more than 60 years. 6) Connex supported and continues to support the Ohio River Way—365 miles of river trail extending from Portsmouth to Louisville, Kentucky; 7) Connex hosts more free outdoor recreation events than any other non-profit in the area.
