Along with pumpkins and leaf-peeping, October brings a sense of calm that gives us all a chance to reflect upon what matters and what we’re thankful for. For fourteen Octobers now the Scioto Foundation through Scioto Gives has brought us a way to express our thanks and give our support to local nonprofit organizations whose work makes the community better. Building a lasting financial base is often difficult for smaller organizations. By establishing an endowment fund with the Scioto Foundation, the organizations are creating that base that will help provide funding for decades ahead.
This year six new organizations will be included in the 55 who are participating in Scioto Gives on October 15. They are Area Agency on Aging Region 7, Autism Project of Southern Ohio, Hard Knocks Training Center, Kitchen Collective, Portsmouth Housing Initiative, and Watch Me Grow. Watch for introductions to each organization on the Scioto Foundation’s social media sites and website.
Supporting your favorite Scioto Gives organization is easy. On October 15, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, go to the Scioto Gives website: www.sciotogives.org. From a pull-down menu, you can choose which organization(s) you want to support, how much you are giving, provide your payment method, and hit the donate button. If you need to pay by check, drop it off in person at the Scioto Foundation office on that day. Stock transfers are also a way to participate but contact the Foundation a week in advance if you prefer that method to donate.
To boost the Scioto Gives organizations’ endowment funds, the Scioto Foundation has set aside $65,000 for matching funds. The match amount each organization is awarded will be calculated after all the contributions are received.
Hot chocolate, cooler days, and the quiet of October give many of us the “feel good” moments that we all need. Helping others whenever we can, has the same “feel good” effect. On October 15, we all have the opportunity to provide a little help to organizations that are working hard for our community through Scioto Gives.
