Mission:
Main Street Portsmouth works to provide services, incentives, and collaborative opportunities to promote a healthy economic downtown while preserving our historic integrity.
Programs and Services:
- Organizes special events such as the Farmers' Market, Chocolate Walk, Farm to Table Dinner and Boneyfiddle Falloween Fest and Ghost Walk Tours.
- Provides promotions, festivals and projects that benefit Portsmouth's downtown.
- Stimulates local business development.
- Reinvests in historic buildings.
- Embraces Portsmouth's distinctive architectural characteristics.
- Showcases Boneyfiddle's unique shops and businesses.
- Works to beautify downtown and historic areas.
- Collaborates with the City of Portsmouth, Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, Portsmouth Convention and Business Bureau, Shawnee State University, Southern Ohio Medical Center, business owners, property owners and residents to revitalize the downtown area.
Did you know?
- A native of Portsmouth, Ohio, Paul E. Johnson loved the Portsmouth Community and wanted to give back by providing green spaces throughout downtown for the citizens of Portsmouth to enjoy. His partner, Kevin Johnson, of over 30 years established a memorial fund to commemorate his love of gardening.
- Paul served as a member of the Main Street Portsmouth board of directors and was active with the Uptown Downtown Committee.
- Moving back to Portsmouth in May 2002, Paul E. Johnson and his partner, Kevin W. Johnson, restored a historic 1899 building at 607 Chillicothe Street and founded The Emporium at Portsmouth Antique Mall which opened for business on November 1, 2002.
